How to

How to estimate a green waste load before you book

A simple way to size a garden pile with photos so an operator can quote it accurately the first time.

4 min read

The most common reason a green waste quote changes on the day is that the pile was bigger than it sounded on the phone. A couple of photos fix that, because green waste holds a lot of air and is genuinely hard to size in words.

Take two photos. One from a few steps back that shows the whole pile, and one close up of the material so the operator can see whether it is soft clippings, woody prunings or mixed. That combination tells them the volume and how hard it is to load.

Give it scale. Stand a wheelie bin, a door or a person next to the pile in the wide shot. A pile that looks big on its own reads very differently next to a 240 litre bin, and scale is what lets an operator quote without a site visit.

Stack it if you can. A loose pile sprawled across the lawn takes up more truck space and more loading time than the same material stacked tight in one spot. Stacking before the photo gives you a smaller, cheaper load and a more accurate quote.

Flag the awkward bits. Long branches, thick limbs, anything spiky, and any material that is wet and heavy are all worth mentioning, because they change how the operator loads and what gear they bring.

Include those details in one free Green Waste Removal Near Me enquiry. Eligible operators may assess the photos and contact you if they accept; a quote is not guaranteed.
